Las Vegas – Palm Springs – Los Angeles

Short on time, or keen to extend your stays in both Vegas (who wouldn’t)? and LA to take in the theme parks, here is a short road trip option. The hints and tips on hire car and air travel from above also apply here.

You can start in either LA or Las Vegas, the number of nights in each depend on what you want to do in each city. I would recommend a minimum of 3 in LA to cover the centre of the city and Santa Monica. More if you want to take in some of the other beach areas such as Malibu or the theme parks.

The drive between Palm Springs and central LA is approximately 2 hours. It is approximately 4 and a half hours from Palm Springs to Las Vegas.

Palm Springs is an upmarket resort city in the desert. It was grown around tourism like Las Vegas, but without the gambling. Palm Springs has a much more chilled out vibe and time is focused on things like relaxing by the pool, playing a round of golf or spending a day at a spa. You can also visit the nearby Joshua Tree national park. Some of the larger resort hotels in Palm Springs are Colony Palms, Parker Palm Springs, Renaissance Palm Springs, The Hyatt Palm Springs and The Viceroy Palm Springs. There are also a huge number of smaller hotels and B&Bs.
