MGM have been given the go ahead to begin dismantling the flawed Harmon Hotel Tower at the front of the CityCenter site.
The blue and silver tower has remained unopened since its completion in 2009 as it was found to be structurally unsound, especially in the event of an earthquake (interesting fact – there’s a 50% chance of an earthquake hitting Vegas in the next 30 years…). The tower which has only been used as a very expensive advertising billboard for Aria’s Cirque Du Soleil shows was supposed to house a boutique hotel. The pavements around the Harmon will be protected so pedestrians can continue to use them without disruption. The demolition work is expected to take a year.
